#ThankfulThursday #Daycare

This part of the blog is dedicated to some social media posts that I wanted to re-share. These were meant to inspire others who may have gone through similar experiences.
I posted this one on May 26, 2022.
In honor of my #ThankfulThursday
posts, I have another random but key memory of people I'm grateful to have had in my life, during seasons I needed blessings the most.
When I was going through my separation, I FINALLY had the chance to live alone. I had always had roommates or lived with a partner. I was determined to make this work. I was 12 hours away from my hometown and didn't have local friends. I didn't receive child support or any outside help, so I worked long hours and commuted to make ends meet.
There was a daycare center near my apartment that was either open late night or was 24 hours. In all my years of motherhood, I have yet to come across another one like it. They were there at a time I was most in need. It was Black-women owned and operated, so it gave a very family-like feel. They were super friendly and fed the kids home-cooked Southern meals. The whole building smelled like grandma's house every time I went in there.
On the days when I was running late due to traffic or had to work overtime, they never charged me. (Most daycare centers charged $1/per minute per kid back then). They would gently tell me when I looked tired, and they always told me I was doing a great job with the kids. On my late nights, they'd have a to-go plate wrapped in foil so that I wouldn't have to cook. They'd feed the kids dinner if I hadn't arrived by my usual time.
Most things went unspoken, but there was a mutual understanding. Without having to pry, they knew I was tired, overwhelmed, feeling mom guilt and skipping meals. I felt seen.
I appreciated the help with no expectations.
Just one of those seasons where I felt most alone and God was like, "Aht Aht! Lemme send you someone, so you can see."
