Loss (poem)

Loss

You know that shit is real

when even a writer can't find the words.

I'm so tired of saying, "My condolences",

A million times, it has been heard.

The empty words circle in the air

like fading clouds of smoke.

Another showcase of life's unfairness.

Another tragedy that I wish was a joke.

What are you supposed to say

When "I'm sorry for your loss" just won't work?

What are you supposed to say

when words won't take away the hurt?

"Rest in peace" or "They're no longer suffering"

Or even, "He's in a better place."

A bunch of words that mean nothing,

with what a major loss you face.
